External contacts

Hi,

Is there a way to forward mail to external users who have the same e-mail address domain as the internal users. IE internal users mail is user@domain.com and the external users mail is user1@domain.com?

We are running SBS2003 using a pop connector to download mail from ISP. External users have individual mailboxes at ISP and internal users are on a "catch all" mailbox with routing rules setup on the pop3 connector. Forwarding of unresolved receipients is setup on the exchange box to send mail out to the external users from the internal users.

Thanks,
ExchangeSBS

If youo have any email address as @Domain.com it will be checked internally and yes if it has a External Primary email it would be redirected to that email :)

To clarify why i want to do this, we want to add the external users to the Gloabal address book as the internal users forget to add them on company wide mails that are sent.

If you send to them direct then the mail is working fine, it's just we want the external users (who are not created as users on the SBS server) to be part of the Global address book.

sentinelsystems, did you look at KB? Second method it's what you need imho.

What you should be looking for is a routing connector between the two namespace servers, as i do believe you said the domain was the same. The routing connector will then see the mails as internal and route over the bridgehead.

If yes they would be part of GAL by default as contacts as they would be email enabled

create a mail enable contact for the external users so that he will be visible in global address list.

Thanks for all the comments. The kb is what we need as well as the option to set all users to get mail from the SBS server will also work. I have gone for the option to get all users to pop from the sbs server. The kb I will use if i have this problem on a new install which this particular client is planning to do soon.
