need to find sound drivers for my dell XPS 420

Hi experts,

I have two of these dell computers, one running windows 7 and the other windows xp. My sound is not working on both of them. I've gone to dell but they only have the windows vista drivers and that doesn't work.

What are the two model numbers of the computers?

Go to Device Manager;  right-click on the sound card (it'll be flagged since it doesn't have a good driver);  select Properties;  click on the Details tab;  in the first drop-down box select Hardware IDs; and note the PCI Vendor number and device number.

Then look it up here:   http://www.pcidatabase.com/

Now you'll know the exact sound hardware you have ... so just Google for an appropriate driver  [Or post the results here and we'll help you find it]
... by the way, did you run Windows Update on both of these => it's VERY likely it will find the sound driver you need.    Run it manually -- and be sure you do a "Custom" check in XP, so it finds all of the optional and hardware updates.   ['7 will automatically check those]

There is a fix for this posted in the dell forums. It is for Windows 7.
