Watchguard & Lync 2010

Hey Guys,

I would like to configure my Watchguard firewall to allow traffic for Microsoft Lync 2010. Please let me know what I require to open in order for Lync 2010 to work. I am using a Watchguard XTM 2 Series firewall.

Thanks.

Hey Guys,

I have tried quite a number of settings for this but have failed.

The main server that is running Lync Server is being hosted abroad while the users that want to access the services provided by this server are located at a local network protected by an XTM 2 Series Firewall. When we bypass the firewall, the Lync works without a problem. But through the firewall, Lync doesnt work.

Can i get some help here.

Thanks.
How does Lync not work?
- can they log on? (that is port TCP5061) but remember, DNS records and settings also come into play here
- can they log in, but no audio/video traffic? first they try peer-to-peer and then via Edge server if not
- is logging on and audio/video okay - but not application sharing? that is UDP 8057 - some firewalls are blocking "unknown protocols"
- if firewall ports are open, are routing correct?
- are clients domain joined?
Hey Jakob,

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I cannot login to Lync at all.

I have brought the issue down to the fact that my internal domain and the domain that I am trying to connect to abroad are the same. The requests are being thrown to my DNS server and returned to my client machine with the error that the host does not exist. I need to point my DNS to point to remote server for Lync requests. What URL should i use for this? Let us assume my domain is abc.com.

Thanks.
