Recommendation for a reliable surveillance DVR
Need a reliable DVR that does not freeze every so often.
I currently have a Q-See package from Costco. The cameras work fine but the DVR freezes every few days. When it freezes it stops recording. The only remedy is to power cycle it.
Anyone can recommend one at up to $1500? It does not need anything fancy, just recording on HDD 24X7 with oldest files overwritten automatically, and live video is viewable through IP network. But it needs to do what it's supposed to do reliably. Need at least 4 (preferrably a few more) inputs for cameras. No need for PTZ or audio or motion detection or alarm. I am looking to keep the cameras so the inputs need to be standard coax BNC. No need for wireless.
Thanks.

It seems Costco replaced Q-See by Swann and they seem to be the products of same level. I am somehow balking at the Costco consumer DVR.
I am looking at this Bosch:

Is this a step up in terms of reliability?
The 8-channel model 480 with 500GB is around $500. Since I am keeping the cameras it should be at the same cost as the Swann.

I don't have any 'hands on' experience with the Bosch units so I'm afraid I couldn't say. However seeing as the unit will be from Costco and their relaxed returns policy, I'd say connect it all up and see how the unit performs as per your setup.
