No page break between views

I have 2 views, each are approx 3/4 of an A4 page in height.
Under print settings I have selected both views to be printed and a page break to separate the views. Yet when I print (SharePoint forms library, infopath filler) the second view starts 3/4 of the way down page 1 rather than 2 views on 2 pages.

Hello QPR,

no need to insert a page break on the views. The settings you have (Page Design > Page Setup > Print Settings tab > Print Multiple views, tick views to print and select "Page break" in the drop-down for "Separate views with") should be sufficient.

This works fine in my tests with Filler, but I've also seen reports that browser enabled forms don't support merged views and that the Design Checker will warn about that. See http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/p/22815/78986.aspx

Did you tick to set these settings as default? (Did you publish the form? Just checking)

cheers, teylyn

What you describe in your first paragraph is exactly what I've done.
This is a sharepoint forms library (filler not browser enabled) that is published
Do you have the page properties setup for A4 or the correct paper sizes?

When I go to Page design - Page setup the "paper" setting is set to default and there are no other options.
Under the print settings tab I only see page orientation
You need to select a printer from the dropdown, which has the A4 paper, then you can pick a paper.

Otherwise it will use which ever if the default of the user, which probably is not A4 paper.

Wouldn't that mean, when deployed, that it will try to print to my printer?
I could be off track here but have similar bad memories of this happening with access reports/crystal

I have selected my own printer and specified A4. Now when I print preview it is still the same. The red line in the image shows the end of one view immediately followed by the top of the second view, on the same page.

Yes if you leave a printer selected that would be the default.

I would make your view larger then so that it fits the whole page. Add more space to the bottom of view 1.

That is low tech but if your data is consistent, it gets the job done.

That's what worries me, the inputted data may not always be consistent. A lengthy address or service required could tip the scales. It doesn't help that the printed version appears a lot more bloated than the printed. The multiline text boxes become double line spaced (see my other Q) and everything is just spaced/padded differently despite me not specifying anything unique for printing. If I hold an a4 sheet to the screen the completed view fits on it with a ton of room to spare but when printed its as though IP is doing its best to stretch out and fill as much of the page as possible. A printed copy that matched the dimensions of the on screen version would be perfect
Yah, InfoPath was designed to be for electronic forms, so the printing is not that robust.

First you should have 2 views, one which is tailored for electronic and one that is for printing.  You can reference the print view in the properties of the electronic view.
That way you do not have to compromise the electronic one for the printing.

Then what I have done is set the controls to not auto expand with the text and then with trial and error figured out the maximum size each can be.
Another method is to truncate using a substring command, This prevents large strings from breaking the formatting.

Also you can use sections and layout tables to better format the data.  Usually takes a lot of playing with it to get it.
QPR,

have you applied the latest Service Packs? I found that a lot of otherwise "inexplicable", wrong InfoPath behaviour disappeared for me after doing that. Take you other Q, for e.g. I cannot recreate the issue. Same here with the page break views. Everything works fine in my tests.

Just a thought.

Thanks will check it out tomorrow. Am also unable to replicate the double spacing at home

Maybe a clue?
It seems when at the foot of the first view that I am unable to insert a print view anywhere (button is greyed out). Only time it is enabled is when I place the cursor outside of the form and on to the canvas (which may be incorrect terminology?)
When I click outside and add a page view it goes to the top of the page rather than between the views
