Mass Effect not running on PC

I recently downloaded mass effect 1 with origin. The download went fine. The install seemed to go okay but when i go to launch the game it says syncing cloud data and then it does nothing.

I have tried re-downloading and re-installing.

Running in compatibility mode (Windows vista)

My PC is more than compatible i can play skyrim / far cry 3 on max no problem. I can also run mass effect 2 with no issues.

I know that this is an older game but it came out at around the same time as windows 7 so it should be compatible right?

If you can run Mass Effect 2 there really is no reason why Mass Effect shouldn't run.

Try applying the 1.02 patch

I know EA has a bad rep with a lot of gamers but honestly I get pretty good customer service from them when I give them a call. You might want to try that. After the hour hold they are usually pretty helpful in my opinion.

Good luck.

Try running the MassEffectLauncher.exe or MassEffect.exe (in the Binaries folder) without Steam running.

I have a solid state hard drive running my OS and the games installed on a separate hdd. When i run the patch it cannot find the game. I am going to try and re-install the game on my SSD. See if it will work then. I have never had an issue with running games on the separate drive before.

mrcannon- i have tried this already

You MUST manually set the Mass Effect exe's to "Run As Administrator" if you use compatibility mode because of the access the Origin updater needs.

Yeah i did that. Still no luck. I also tried installing the game in the default location and it still wouldn't let me install that patch.
Are you updated to v1.02 (see AnthonyRusso's post) ?

If aren't running anything else using Origin's Cloud Storage try switching it off and then launching ME again

Just reaching here but perhaps if you installed from Origin, it already has the patch. do you have the original discs before they put it on origin? Try a clean install from there possibly and then patch.

I have already done a clean install. It is a game download though not a disk. I just disabled the cloud storage and still nothing.
in some cases, changing the Compatibility Mode to XP will allow the game to run in some scenarios (i have the original version on DVD, not Origin).  Surprised that Origin do not set this up already as part of the download and config.

Can you set the Compat. option on the game binary file as see if that works for you (and Run As Admin)??  Origin should be run as Admin too, and the game should already be @ 1.02 patch.
Try to bypass Origin entirely and launch Mass Effect from the executable
Solution I found
To launch from Origin
Go to>Mass Effect .exe, located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect\Binarie. Then, rightclick that and   "Run as Administrator". ME1 launches ???

I have already tried changing the compatibility to XP mode. Nothing.

I have also tried running the .exe but not as an admin. I will give this a try when i get home. thanks.

The 1.02 patch does not work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game to the default location and still it does not work. It says that the game cannot be detected.
Allow it through your anti virus ( exceptions)  just incase, some AV don't like .exe
