Symantec Backup Exec 11d Unable to attached to a resource

hello, i am having an issue trying to back up my MS Exchange 2003 x86 server. i keep receiving an error message as the one i pasted below. I have triple checked that the program files directory is selected in the selection list of the backup job. I have recreated the backup job from scratch. At this point i think the issue can be something on my actual exchange. At one point..many many logs ago, the information store was having an issue been backed up. Now its simply the program files directory.

What can be going on? This is the only server in the backup job and its on a different vlan

Backup- 192.168.1.4Unable to attach to \\192.168.1.4\C:Program Files.
V-79-57344-33932 - Unable to attach to a resource.  Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again.

Have you tried backing it up using the FQDN instead of the IP address?

no i have not. I could try but i am not sure this would matter - or even work since the media server is on a different vlan and domain altogether..

the media server is a member server while the exchange server is on its own domain
also it takes quiet a long time to fail..the job rate is 59.56MB/min...which is horrible..could this be related to the network? and the job fails after copying 64GB..always around the same byte count.

tx
is there any alternatives?
Should i dedicate a nic on the server to connect to the same vlan as the the media backup server?

I still haven't had time to visit my data center to dedicate a nic for my backups..

But will this most likely fix my issue?
Can we say that this is a network related issue?
Again, I can probably have a dedicated network simply for backups. And even though the jobrate is terribly slow, i believe backup exec should work correctly even if its on a Ethernet (10mb) network pipe.

please help soonest.

thx

What are the makes and model names of the switches?

Duplex settings on the NIC's?
hello,

yes, the duplex setting on the nics are set to full / 100

i have a cisco 2950 and a 3560 on the network.

i have a backup job that performs backups of my server on my 10.50.100.x net. The same net that my backup exec server is on.

But I am trying to back up my exchange server from my 192.168.1.X network

tx
Download this, configure them on the affected nodes and post results.

im having an issue configuring this on the servers. I receive a connection refused message.

without having to install this i can say that I have a domain running on the 192.168.x.x net...and then another domain on the 10.50.x.x net

i dont doubt that traffic is causing the slow backup speeds. But is this the reason that by backups are failing? Or could it be something on my exchange server that causes the job to fail after the same amount of bits have been transferred every time?
I just ran the job once more. it failed at the exact same spot with the same message:

Backup- 192.168.1.4Unable to attach to \\192.168.1.4\C:Program Files.
V-79-57344-33932 - Unable to attach to a resource.  Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again.
If you bypass that directory, does it still fail?
And as for performance speed ,what's the average on your other servers?
the other servers on the same vlan average 500mb/minute

let me try to bypass the program files directory.
ok so the job failed multiple times over the weekend. For some reason it shows the same error.

I quadruple checked. Clearly, I unselected the program files directory in the Selection List of the backup job - what can be happening?
What happens if you do a ping between the subnets?
Is there any packet loss?
Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling the BE client piece to see if that helps.

Or try running a defrag on that server.
i already reinstalled the client. When receive icmp replies when i ping. I dont think its a com issue.

But more of a programming/config issue. If I unselected the programs files directory from the SELECTION LIST, why is it still looking for it?

i ran the consistency check on the db. It was ok.

i recreated the job from scratch. This time deleted all other lingering jobs in the job setup menu. I UNselected the program files directory and the job was successfull.

The issue is that i cant restore the state i suppose since program files is where plenty of the applications reside.

let me try to backup selecting program files.
