I have a decade old 3Com 3C16771 firewall (SonicWall based I have been told). It serves me well until recently. The log has numerous Error 17's but the users guide doesn't mention errors (unsurprisingly). Can someone please tell me what that error is? Thank you.

Could you post the entire error log message?

Broadcast packet dropped      192.168.1.3, 137, LAN      192.168.1.255, 137, LAN      Code:17Broadcast packet dropped      192.168.1.3, 137, LAN      192.168.1.255, 137, LAN      Code:17

The first IP is the source, the second is the destination.

All of them are the same.

It just occurred to me to look at my DHCP configuration. I deleted 137 from the static range and will see what happens when that device -- I have 16 devices so I don't happen to know what 137 is -- gets a dynamic address.

137 seems to be the port. TCP/UDP 137 is used by Windows Netbios, which is a protocol normally doing broadcasts, so it seems okay to me.

Not a lot of work, but I needed your reminder that 137 is the port--but you were the only responder, thank you.
