Youtube sometimes says "An error occurred. Please try again later"

I have several computers set up on a network.  From time to time, they will not play youtube videos.   Sometimes one will play but not the other, sometimes one will play a certain title but not another.  I can even have one video playing in one browser window and one failing in another on the same machine.

I can take the url of a video that doesn't play on my machines and play it on my phone, so the video link is ok.

I've done my google/experts-exchange research and eliminated all the usual suspects, which include:

1. cache/cookies/java/flash versions
2. disk space
3. firewalls
4. system performance in general - happens on multiple systems all Windows.  Most are windows 7 but it happens on XP as well
5. network performance - I can stream vimeo videos all day long no problem.  checked and verified bandwidth.

One video I can never play is the "speed test" video in youtube.   I can be playing a youtube video fine in one window, but in the window next to it the speed test video says "an error occurred.  Please try again later".

Today no videos were playing on any machine.  I started trying to diagnose it and with no apparent change, after about an hour, some videos started playing.

I'd offer 1000 points to get this fixed, but can only offer 500.

thanks

And what speed is your internet connection that is shared by all those computers?  Note that your phone is probably not on the same network unless it is using WiFi thru your router.

And since 'speedtest' is trying to measure your bandwidth, I'm not surprised that it won't run properly when it can't get all the bandwidth.

I checked both websites referenced above.  Been through the google page a number of times -still can't play the youtube speed test file.

tried everything on kiosks page, no luck.

I use IE10,  Chrome 26.0.1410.64 m and firefox 20.0.1.   XP system has different versions.

Here's a clue - when I try the trick of clicking in the video window when the error occurs and selecting pop-out, two things happen:

1. the video thumbnail appears in the browser window, which was previously black.
2. The popup generates the message -
                            Playback Error
                            This video is currently unavailable

This behavior happens across multiple systems/browsers.  The video is available because I can use the link on my phone.

What is the link to the Youtube Speedtest?

If you right-click in the video window and select "Take Speed Test", you will get this window:

http://www.youtube.com/my_speed#

Towards the bottom of the page there is a link labeled "Show Test Video'.  Click on that link.  Note the url doesn't appear to change.

according to speedtest.net I get about 4.5Mbps download and .94Mbps upload.

Since video from all other sources (vimeo, etc.) play fine, I don't think it has anything to do with my link speed.  I  tried it when I knew no other machine was taking the bandwidth and measured traffic on my router.  No issues found.

Also, I have my phone set to wifi mode so it is using the same network.

Open cmd  and run folloing commands:

cd %userprofile%\desktop\
ping www.youtube.com  >>youtube.txt

a textfile will be created on your desktop named youtube.txt. Now start streaming youtube.whenever you see the error message go to that file and open.Do you see PKT loss or high latency?

Attach that text file (youtube.txt) when you reply.
