My old machine is running Windows 7 Ultimate, My new machine runs Windows 8.

I am in the process of installing MS Sql Server 2005 on the new machine. It has been installed on the old machine for 3 years.

The installation fails.

Is Windows 8 a compatibility issue with the setup?

Is SQL Server 2008 supported on Win 8?

I have SQL Server 2008 upgrade but needed to install SQL Server 2005 first.

Thanks,

SQL 2008 is supported (SP 3 necessary). You can install SQL 2008 RTM and have to update then to SP 3.
Why do you want to install 2005 first and do then the upgrade?

My 2008 may be an upgrade that requires 2005 to be installed.

Hi,
there is not technical upgrade version, its only the licensing paper. So you can install SQL 2008 directly with no issues.
