Hello,

I'm looking at deploying a stretched DAG across two datacenters.

Primary DataCenter
DC's
CAS Array
2 servers - CA/HT Role
Witness Server
DAG
2 mailbox servers (Active Database copies)

Failover DataCenter
DC
CAS array
1 server - CA/HT role
DAG
1 mailbox server (Passive Database copies)

Questions
1. Can the Witness Server reside on one of the CAS servers?
2. Is a Witness Server required at the Failover DataCenter?
3. The examples that I have seen have always had at least two mailbox servers at the Failover site, is this design valid?

Hi,

1. Can the Witness Server reside on one of the CAS servers?
Yes, you can have it on CAS. but by default it look for HUB server.

2. Is a Witness Server required at the Failover DataCenter?
You can have alternate file share witness at failover datacenter.

3. The examples that I have seen have always had at least two mailbox servers at the Failover site, is this design valid?
It depends on your design, you can have one passive copy in failover site of all the databases in the active site.

Hello imkottees,

Can you expand on your response to Q2.

Regarding Q3, if the Primary DataCenter becomes unavailable, can I make the database copies at the Failover site active?
