I downloaded both of these to support my VS 2012 efforts on a new PC.   I decided not to go with the new LocalDB version for now because I might also do development on an older PC box with VS2010.

SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU setup worked fine, my app came up on the new machine (yay!)

When I launch SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU it starts the same panel as for setting up SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.  So I stopped it.

I was doing some research but could not parse out what I've got here.   There's a new program installed called SQL Server Data Tools, which launches VS2010.

I was expecting to need Management Studio when I'm running my app under IIS to test  multiple users, and needing to disconnect the SQL connection when I want to go back to debugging under VS2012 directly (though maybe there's another way to do that).  Also, I figured I might make some use of Management Studio at some point.

Any help with understanding the relationship of these downloads and tools would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks for the input.  Yes on the confusing!  However, MSSMS 2012 is now in program list, so...Grazie!
