Remove Asterisk in SharePoint 2010 List Form

Hello,

I am looking to remove the red asterisk that appear after required fields in a SharePoint 2010 entry form for a list. This corresponds to the list NewForm.aspx page. I know it is probably not best practice to remove the asterisk, given that it is a universal indicator for required fields, but the client wants it.

So, for example: First Name*

Regardless of the merits, is there any way to remove the asterisk for all list items? In this case, it is because all fields on the form are required, which is well-known, so the asterisks are just viewed as aesthetically cumbersome and unnecessary.

Any JavaScript or other code that can remove those? We still need the fields to be required, just don't want the red asterisks.

Thanks,
Joseph Irvine

Hi,
you will have to embed jQuery and this function:
jQuery(document).ready(function () {
jQuery("span.ms-formvalidation").text('');
});

Open in new window

I thought I'd write this up for anyone who has a request to create an anonymous whistle-blower-type submission form created using SharePoint 2010 (this would probably work the same for 2013). It's not 100% fool-proof but it's as close as you can get…
