Migrating iPhone Contacts

I just got a new iPhone 5 and I use a MacBook Pro.

I have a big list of contacts in Excel that I can structure into a csv or text file format.

If I want to get these contacts onto my iPhone in a way that is easy to manage, what is the best path for me? Should I import into the Mac contacts book or should I use a third party contact management tool?

The Mac contacts system does not seem very functional or easy to work with.

You could export the contacts from Excel as a CSV, and then import them into either Address Book or Outlook, and then Sync the phone with Address Book or Outlook to xfer the contacts to the phone.  Of course, before syncing, you'll want to make sure (by looking in address book or outlook) that the contents of your contact list ended up showing in the right fields.

That worked, once I changed the settings on my iPhone to no longer sync with my iCloud account (since I don't have an iCloud account......)
