How do I stream a movie to a webpage?

Hi,
I have a friend that is paying for a service each month to stream his 3 movies.
Where would I start to see what it would take to create an app to do that?

Ok, yes the bandwidth is needed.. :-)
Don't want to put on You Tube.. was wondering what it would take to create your own server, bandwidth, storage to store and stream to maybe 10 users at the same time.. like NetFlix?
These are hour and a half two hour movies created, edited and wanting to be shown on the web for rental fee.. :-)

If the service is the only way to go then what one would be good like Netflix?

Mainly wanting to learn the ins and outs to make decisions and to know what to ask for if needing to go service direction.

Thanks,
Bill

Thank you very much for the help!
Thank you bcarlis, I didn't mention Wimpy rave but it's pretty good to stream playlists from your HDD to your web page, it is a customizable embedded player
I offer this for your consideration to help with more ideas.
