Very simple config from a 3400 box:

!
ip routing
!
vlan 93
   name "to HQ"
   untagged 3
   ip address 172.31.0.42 255.255.255.248
   tagged 1
   exit
!
key-chain "OSPF"
key-chain "OSPF" key 1 key-string "secret"
!
ip router-id 172.31.0.42
!
router ospf
   area backbone
   redistribute connected
   exit
vlan 93
   ip ospf area backbone
   ip ospf md5-auth-key-chain "OSPF"
   exit
!

Do I do same on other side of switch? I see there are some kind of secret key in ospf? What's it for I have not seen in any of my search on internet. Are you also running this in live production?

Thanks

Also why is vlan 93 tag on port 3 and untag on port 1? I assume this is a single area ospf?

Yes, this is from a live environment.
Port 1 goes to a Cisco PIX, which only provides failover internet access.
Port 3 goes to a core Cisco 6509 which, which provide some other VLANs in layer2.

In this setup OSPF is only used to give a default route dynamically to the HP: if everything is okay, the default route points to the C6509, if the link goes down, the PIX (with an ADSL) is the default route so the office has at least internet access.
Not the best setup ever, but it works.

Using security is not mandatory in OSPF, but you can use it with passwords.

Very nice. Can I see more config and can I also see another hp switch directly connect to this core switch. Many thanx.
