saved contacts on android

The last two contacts I saved to default gmail (not sim card) on android phone was area with no cell phone reception

now I can not find these contacts

would contacts be saved in a backup or another area on the phone

Contacts sync'd or not would all be in your Android phone contacts folder. Mine is Jellybean and I have Sync turned off but can always see the contacts that I save to Gmail.

You can try to check again after sync'ing with Gmail.

You can also check your gmail contacts online.

As a back up, try to regularly back up your phone contacts to the SD card as a VCF file.
