Categories in Outlook

In Outlook Contacts I have marked a number of contacts with a Category.

However when I try to view by Category the contacts are not brought together but scattered throughout the list.

If I click on Categories I get a  message saying "You cannot sort by this field"

I am using Outlook 2003 with Windows 7
Has anyone any ideas how I see a Category List please?

Theres an awful lot of information there but I cannot see any answer to my question, how I can sort on categories.
