SharePoint error activating Server Publishing

I receive "an unexpected error has occured", when activating SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure.

Hi,
which Sharepoint version and which edition?
Can you have a look into the Sharepoint ULS log - there you should get a more detailed error message.

unfortunately I was not able to obtain detailed error, even after turning on verbose, however, I was able to activate it using powershell.  Thanks
