Sidebar on Wordpress site creates full box border

When I try to add a sidebar border to the primary aside that only shows up on the right side of the sidebar, between the sidebar and the main content section, I get a ghosted, lighter border around all the other sides of the sidebar and not just the single side border that I am trying to apply. What am I missing? Been working too much today and my brain has gone to mush. I know it's something easy but I can't see it.

It's because you have a border defined in default.css.  If you need that border definition there, then you would have to nullify it in the style.css file by doing a border: none; followed by a border-right:
