Just press the button? :)

Now, if he wants to call a contact external to your organization, make sure to have Lync federation enabled, as described in the following article:

http://onlinehelp.microsoft.com/en-us/office365-enterprises/hh416767.aspx

If it is enabled and you still have issues, use the following article:

We dont have microsoft lync ourselves so who would i call to make the test? We have received a link from our customers which has expired.  As far as im aware the web side of lync can only connect to people who have the full (paid) version of server?

Sorry, I found this question under the Office 365 section, so I assumed that you are Office 365 customer and use the full Lync application.

There is an option for people to join Lync meetings using the Lync Web App, as described in details here:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/communicator-help/quick-start-participate-in-online-meetings-with-lync-web-app-HA101901732.aspx?CTT=5&origin=HA101908015

Depending on the sender's environment, this might take you either to Lync Online or Lync On-prem server. You should really contact the sender of the invitation, as there is no way for us to know if they are using the on-prem ot the Lync Online version (should be visible from the link they gave you)
