I have an Dell 8600 laptop with windows xp which turns it self off at random.
I have changed the motherboard and Mcroprcessor, microprocessor thermal cooling assembly
Mini pci/modem
Hard Drive
DVD Device

The following items I have not changed:
Fan
Video Card and Fan
Memory Module and Memory cards
Keyboard

The only I can think that might be causing this would be the video card
All fans are running fine.

Thing on the screen do flicker off and on some times

One cause could be overheating. An overheated computer will usually just turn off. But you appear to have checked for that.

Is your video a separate card in your laptop? or just a chip?  I suspect the latter. Is it covered by the fan and can you renew the thermal paste in it.

A simple quiet shut down could also be lack of power. Is your battery OK?  Can you try another AC Adapter?

Can you switch memory chips?  That is, are there two?  Run with only one and then switch.

@starview - Thanks. I am glad you got the thermal paste replaced before any damage. Good luck. ... Thinkpads_User
