Windows XP disc installation

Hi,

I have a old laptop which the HD has broken and I had replaced but I lost the Windows XP disc installation and now I am on hold. Can you tell me if is possible to get a copy or to download it from the internet?

PS: On the back of the laptop I have the Product Key and I just need the software. The laptop brand is Microstar - Model MD40681

Please advice.

XP has died and sources such as Digital River no longer carry it.

You can look on eBay as people will sell legal copies of operating systems there. DO check the vendor out.

However, old laptop plus time wasted in restoring a dead operating system is probably a bad investment of both money and time.

Consider a newer computer with a supported operating system.

CD Keys are specific to the installation disks and the only body which could support that is Microsoft but its a discontinued line so even they will not support
You can take it to a PC Maintenance shop who has a commercial license to install a legal copy of his version on your machine

Can't agree with that.

Any XP disk will do so long as it matches the the license type ( XP Home or XP Pro usually)

There is nothing illegal in downloading an XP image from a torrent site and using a valid serial for a particular PC, but we cannot give those type of links here.

Eirman is right.  You could download XP SP3 from several internet sites.  And install using your valid key.  The difficulty may arise in getting some manufacturer-specific drivers.

you can even make an install cd from a running XP - pick one that has the version you had

then try your key

Hi mallony. By accidentally giving yourself zero points in closing this question you are actually trying to close this question. Try closing it again.

This is an EE system error and will hopefully be fixed in the future.
