Outlook 2007 search options is grayed out for many users

 Called the user and asked her if she was able to use the search function in clincal owa and she said no that the search field and the indexing option is completely grayed out or disabled and she also mentioned that several other of her co-workers are having the same issue which indicates that this is a server end-related issue and the exchange

Did the  Outlook search options is grayed while accessing from Citrix machine?

Not sure if some GPO is blocking this but can the users do a search from OWA\Webmail from internal without Citrix or even from external ?

some of the users are not able to search via  OWA also ,

Is there any service or component in exchange responsible for search function working in

outlook and OWA?

Yes ... what is the Exchange version ?
How many mailbox databases do you have and are all affected users
