I know this is a problem for allot of users and associated with mapped drives. This particular situation turns out Outlook was placed in the users start-up folder and another application that runs their content management system. I expect the content management system was causing the issue opening Adobe docs first. I removed the shortcut from start-up and it works fine now. What a pain posting to keep in the knowledgebase.
