As always, start in the docs:

http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e18951/asmcon.htm

Oracle ASM is installed in the Oracle Grid Infrastructure home before Oracle Database is installed in a separate Oracle home. Oracle ASM and database instances require shared access to the disks in a disk group.

Then:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24321/oraclerestart.htm

Oracle® Database Installation Guide  11g Release 2 (11.2) for Linux
