you need to purchase VMware separately, unless you are using the free edition which could be downloaded directly from vmware.com

Our Dev teams are like yours. They’re continually cranking out code for new features/bugs fixes, testing, deploying, testing some more, responding to production monitoring events and more. It’s complex. So, we thought you’d like to see what’s working for us.

I manage Cisco Unified Communications on UCS as my day job. The VMware platform for UCS is the same as for other servers, I think Cisco might sell the license also, however it's not a special software release.
To deploy CUCM, CUC, CUPS & UCCX you want to use the Cisco OVA templates, they are supported by TAC. http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Unified_Communications_Virtualization_Downloads_(including_OVA/OVF_Templates)
The OVA will give you the Cisco recommended resource allocation for the servers.

Also do you have a vCenter as part of your license? If so you need to decide on whether to deploy vCenter as a virtual appliance or on a dedicated hardware appliance.

I would recommend vCenter as managing 3 servers separately is a pain.

Did you check the link I posted? The ESXi image is available in vmware.com, and it is a special software release meant for Cisco equipment, therefore it is a separate download than the regular hypervisor link.
