Enterprise Vault big data management

Can anyone please let me know what is the best possible way to migrate the EV Vault Store into the tapes before I enable the data purging policy for any data older than 5 years ?

I need to know what are my options to relieve the storage array LUNs across 12 Vault Store Partitions and 3 index partitions.

Any suggestion to free up the disk space in the EV Vault Store that can be retrieved later in the case of an audit would be considered as well.

Thanks in advance.

You could close the vault store partions relegating them to read only status.  Once that is done you can enable collections which should take the smaller files and turn them into CAB files. Once that is done you can backup during the day/night since these are now read only files.  You can then back them up to disk/tape as needed.  Afterwards you can enable your retention policies as needed but keep in mind that retention polices may be applied to diferent archvie policies and you have to be carefull.  Let's say you're using the same retention policy for your journaling as your file system archiving or mailbox archiving.  If you change the policy for one of these it will change it for all of them and you may lose unintended data.

Thanks Paul, so how does this affects the user interaction when the migrated .CAB files is written off to tape and then the files deleted ?

does the restore of the CAB from the tape requires reindexing ?

the cab files will not have effect on user interaction, it does not require re-indexing.  It's  a little slower to pull up archived emails since it has to pull from cab file but usually not noticeable. Just make sure you setup cache folder on each EV server
