i have an WD ext hd that is synced to the main system for backup. Win xp keeps the drive letter when the drive spins down, but win 7 does not have the drive available when the drive sleeps. How can I keep the drive active in windows? The ext drive spins down automatically.

What I do is map the network drive to the PC, so even if the drive is powered down, the drive name (N:), is still visible: Mapped Drive
