Quickbooks Pro 13 on a 2008R2 Terminal Server
Hi Experts,
We have a terminal server running quick books pro 13 for a client
Now first and foremost, i know quickbooks support wont support this configuration, as they only support Enterprise on terminal server
However i also know that many have had success stories regardless. After all, where there is a will there is a way
Quickbooks runs fine for the most part, however there are a few problems that i wanted to see if anyone else had encountered and even maybe resolved?
-Users opening company files sometimes retain the file in single user mode, preventing access by others
-The default printer is not pulled through, instead it shows the first printer available on the list, and even if you pick the correct default printer, the next time you log in and go to print, it has reverted
Any one know of ways around these issues?

Hi Arnold,
So even though all the files are on the one server and accessed via terminal server, it has to be set to multihost mode?
Can this scan be done whilst the system is in use?

Yes, you have to have a DB engine that will arbitrate the connections/access.
In single host mode, only one user can access a company file.

Hi,
I have added all of the company files to the DB engine, but they still default to single user mode? And the printer is still not set to the default?

The company file has to be opened and switched to multi. The db engine is the arbitrator and its presence will not auto-switch the functionality.

But then i don't understand why it needed to be modified as you suggested, if it wont fix the issues i raised in the opening question?
To support multi-user access to a file the DB monitor must be running.
Without the DB running, the reference within the NDB file will point to an instance that cannot be contacted and will periodically cause users that the file can not be opened.

ok, is there any way to force files to by default open in multi?
And also any idea on the printer issue?

No. The multi has to be set. Not sure whether you can modify the .ND file to indicate this is a multi-host file.
Look at one first. Change its status to multi and close. then look at the .nd file again.
How are the printers assigned?
If you look at the system's printer and devices?
Which printer is set as default?

Printers are mapped by citrix. If the users look in word or excel it indeed has marked the correct printer as the default. However quickbooks just sorts them alphabetically for some reason
I believe Office products are configurable within the application which is the default printer or they use the last one used.
Please see which printer is set as default in your start printer and devices?
Does your citrix environment allow you to attach your "local" printer to the session?

Hi Arnold,
Yes it allows their local printers to be attached to the session, and pulls in their default printer
There are no printers on the TS directly as it sits in a data center so, its just these remote printers that it uses
Im not sure if thats the reason as obviously it re-maps the printers everytime they log back in?

The user's local default reinterpret will be the TS default printer provided TS has the printer's drivers installed.

hmmm the drivers arent installed on the server, instead citrix passes these through...
However that said they are also experiencing an issue now with printing muitl-paged documents, in which the format and content go off for pages past the first few

I'll try and get the printer drivers installed on the server and see if that makes a difference
The version must be multi user and the system where the company files are, must run the dbmanager that monitors the filesystem where the company files are stored and have ports open for the clients to be able to connect this monitoring service to arbitrate access.
