Public Folder Access Exchange 2013 / Outlook 2007

Outlook 2007

Internal URL server.customer.local
External URL mail.customername.com

Access to mailbox via internal url is fine.
Access to public or shared items does not accept password as it is using the external url and apparently does not have access to active directory.

Microsoft Article ID: 2839517 states “Microsoft is currently working on a fix for this issue and this article will be updated once more information is available.”

Is there a fix for this problem?

to configure the same server.customer.local  for both internal and external

I tried triston's suggestion to no avail.  Same problem still exists.

The change required a restart of the server.  When I first tried it I had not restarted the server and the change did not take effect.  After restarting the server, the login worked.  One note, existing profiles will have the external url embedded the first time you log in with them.  Cancelling through the password prompt the during the first logon will correct this problem.  Deleting and recreating the profile will also correct the problem.
