You could also try:

(1) Close all running instances of Google Chrome.
(2) Navigate to: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\User Data.
(3) In the User Data folder, look for a file named "Default" and rename it.
(4) Launch Google Chrome and a new "Default " file will be created.

I use chrome as my main browser, but it seems extensions really mess things up.  Therefor, I keep my chrome browser extension free and no more problems.   The only thing I use are the Developer tools.   I use firefox for all the add ons.

(3) In the User Data folder, look for a file named "Default" and rename it.

I am afraid, not.  But you could go back to the renamed file.  No harm experimenting.  See if the problem gets fixed; if not, you could restore the file (better still, create a restore point before making changes, and if something does not work to your liking, restore the computer).
