ePO: Alternative Management

I researched but can't quite find the answer I'm looking for. I have a non-internet connected domain of about 5 servers and 15 Win7 machines. I really don't want to purchase, configure and manage ePO when I rarely every make any changes if I at all. Every now and then a change has to be made and I'm stuck using the remote console and that's getting old. Anyone know if any VSE changes can be scripted.. vb or bat to registry.. something like that?

I guess to make this more clear, are there .ini files or registry values I can script changes to?

Initially I was thinking of MER may be explored further but to do remote admin that can be a "sketch" @ https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB59385

There is WMI and Powershell but I none the wiser - it tough to cover "all" tasks. Mostly they are also reading registry etc, in other words better suited for querying then executing task
E.g WMI @ https://community.mcafee.com/docs/DOC-2992
E.g. PS @ http://poshcode.org/598
E.g. PS @ http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/2011/12/01/powershell-script-to-check-mcafee-virus-definition/

probably knowing what exe to execute to perform the routine task like scan and update instead of the changes that can be minimal should be the priority. Saw this update DAT commandline
@ https://community.mcafee.com/thread/23968

The various switches may help
scan32 /all /log /autoexit
http://virusscan.helpmax.net/en/appendix/using-the-command-line-with-virusscan-enterprise/on-demand-scanning-command-line-options/

mcupdate /update /quiet
http://virusscan.helpmax.net/en/appendix/using-the-command-line-with-virusscan-enterprise/update-task-command-line-options/

there is a removal and installation if of interest

Remotely, I was thinking of PSExec too to run command from your PC e.g.  for scanning,
psexec @OldAV_02_16_2010.txt "C:\Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan Enterprise\mcupdate.exe" /update /quiet

Some Sysinternal tools of mentioned
- PSExec @ http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897553.aspx
- PSTools @ http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896649.aspx

Note that if other remote admin tool like vncviewer is in the client or server, VSE might consider some of the system tools you use as potentially unwanted programs (PUPs). If you configure exclusions for those files VSE won't delete them.

Sidenote - The below pdf has other info though not remote but good means to keep client healthy and lesser maintenance (i hope)
