Outlook shared calendars not syncing

We have a customer that is on sbs 2003, client pcs have office 2003 and 2010, users have their calendars shared out. There are users in the office and users out on the road, the users in the office update the calendars for people out on the road, but calendar syncing is intermittent, sometimes new appointments do not show, they only show when both users outlooks are closed down and reopened again, this is not ideal as things are getting missed, anyone have any experience with this problem?

That smells awfully like AV Interference which I have seen many times.  What are you running on the server / clients and have you excluded the Exchange structure from the AV scanning?

Running AVG on both the server and client pc, I have just added the exception in avg for exchange, is there anything I need to do on the client pc for avg?
