scan images to the database
I am using a vb6 application to enter registration information.
I need to scan documents that link to each student. How is it possible to upload an image or document into our database?
Is there another economical solution that will do this for us? For example, could I use dropbox or connect to something that will allow us to save documents?

Are there any cheap or free applications that will load images onto the server
yes there are lots of free ones but please keep in mind you "get what you pay for" and the free ones can have bugs from time to time

Is there a software that will load it over the internet onto our server?
my apologies now you are asking two different questions
you first asked is there software that will SCAN documents into a folder for a databse
which I have provided solutions to.
Now your asking if there are ways to scan documents in over the intenet
EX I am in california
I scan in a document and it ends up in your network folder in NewYork
The answer to that is yes
its called Dissconnected scanning you basically have to have a Web service set up that a scanning interface would scann the document and upload it to your network folder via the web service.
there are no FREE versions of this and they are expensive
but very powerful
I use this daily

Can I interface a vb6 application to link to that scanned document? Essentially I would have to use two different programs...

What does it cost to get?
Onbase ONline Package is 160 / month
initial set up cost $500
initial set up cost $500
of ECM software packages taht will do this for you
You dont laod images into a databse, you load the links to them into your database
a basic concept for you would be to use ECM software (Like Onbase or Kofax) to scan the files into a folder on the server and add the link to the file into your database and query that link into a picturebox
