scan images to the database

I am using a vb6 application to enter registration information.

I need to scan documents that link to each student.  How is it possible to upload an image or document into our database?

Is there another economical solution that will do this for us?  For example, could I use dropbox or connect to something that will allow us to save documents?

There are 1000's
of ECM software packages taht will do this for you

You dont laod images into a databse, you load the links to them into your database

a basic concept for you would be to use  ECM software (Like Onbase or Kofax)  to scan the files into a folder on the server and add the link to the file into your database and query that link into a picturebox

Are there any cheap or free applications that will load images onto the server

yes there are lots of free ones but please keep in mind you "get what you pay for" and the free ones can have bugs from time to time

or jsut use windows fax and scan

my apologies now you are asking two different questions

you first asked is there software that will SCAN documents into a folder for a databse
which I have provided solutions to.

Now your asking if there are ways to scan documents in over the intenet
EX I am in california
I scan in a document and it ends up in your network folder in NewYork

The answer to that is  yes
its called Dissconnected scanning you basically have to have a Web service set up that a scanning interface would scann the document and upload it to your network folder via the web service.

there are no FREE versions of this and they are expensive
but very powerful
I use this daily

absolutely
that is how we use it
we have our home grown application querying OB's databsae and pulling up documents/images in our tool

Essentially I would have to use two different programs
yes if you wanted to utilize both.

OR
Onbase has its own viewer and you can use to pull up the images as well
its all sql based so you an create custom queries based off the indexed documents for specific searching (say by student ID)
