I have a 2012 TS machine.
We store all  invoices in word format.  We need to be able search by the customer name in the filename and search for a part number in the file.  How can I do this.  Is there a better way?

You have a few options:
1)From explorer, click search and then options from the drop down ribbon. Click the search tab and then the last tickbox to enable searches in files too.

2)From explorer, you can search with filters. For example, you could try from the search box in the top right:
Invoices*.docx content:Smith&Jones

You may also want to look at the following:

To install the Windows Search Service go to the feature menu in add roles and features (reboot may be required).
