Error updating Samsung Apps on Galaxy Ace phone

Hi,

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace phone. It is telling me I have updates available for Samsung Apps. When I go to update it it fails.

1) I select Samsung Apps and it begins to load. The message "Samsung Apps update available. Update? Server functions will be updated. Restart Samsung Apps when update is complete" appears and I press OK.

2) It then appears to start when I get the following error
"Sorry! The application Samsung Apps (process com.sec.android.app.samsungapps) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". Then I press the Force close button.

I have tried many times but the same error occurs. Does anyone have any idea about how I might be able to fix this?

From what I have been able to research, there are two methods that have been used to fix the issue on other samsung devices.

Uninstalling all updates to Samsung applications installed on the phone

Noted that in some instances, the samsung package manager can get become.  (From the home screen: Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications "Uninstall" Samsung Apps and com.sec.android.app.samsungapps.una. Start Samsung Apps app and re-download the updates)

Backup Data and perform a factory soft reset.

ASKER

Do you know if performing these tasks will remove any of the apps already downloaded on the phone? I don't have much data, just one song I use as a ringtone and some photos. Will I need to backup my phone numbers as well?
