XML from a SQL Server table

Does anyone know any good articles that will allow me to use XML from a SQL Server table.  The table has no XML data type in its definition.  Ideally I would like to send parameters into a stored proc and get back the results as XML.  I intend on consuming them via linq in VB.Net
