I have a report with a field "BillToName"
I want to add a parameter to select all records based on other parameters where the "BillToName" contains "xxx" selected at run time.

So would the {yourField} = {BillToName}
and the "YourText" ={?ParameterField}

Would this then prompt at run time the BillToName contains "xxx"?

I created a blank parameter field.
Set the select expert to be "Is Like" = parameter field
Then in prompt enter criteria *xxx*

No.  You need to use the field you are trying select on.
