add ip addresses to vlan

Hello,

I have a 15 vlans and use one VLAN for wireless.

 - vlan 13 has dhcp scope of 10.34.32.1 to 10.34.32.253
 - Core cisco 3750 has VLAN13 interface of 10.34.32.254 and ip helper address of 10.3.33.1
 - Cisco 1242 AP's are configured for SSID on vlan 13
 - edge switch has trunk to Core 3750

I am running out of IP addresses on the 10.34.32/24 subnet and only have 10.88.32.0/24 to use.

I assume i can't subnet that to get a new mask as it's not continuous.

How do I go about accepting wireless address requests on the VLAN 10.34.32/24 range and when they have run out allocate ip addresses of 10.88.32?

Stumped over this, but not a hardcore networking guy!

That seems odd.  These are private address ranges so why are you so constrained?
Have you considered using 10.34.32.0/23?  It would have the same network address as you have now of 10.34.32.0 but with 256 more addresses going from 10.34.32.1 to 10.34.33.254.
That would appear to be one of the simplest solutions subject to there not being too much added traffic.  But you are only "out of addresses" and not saying "I want to immediately add 256 devices".  So you should be safe in that regard for now or maybe forever.

Thanks, but it is a private network and we are allocated ranges.

Unfortunately, unless you request a whole bunch at once from the provider, you get whatever is next on the range list, hence the gaps inbetween that have been allocated to another site.

Well then, *I'm* confused....

"Providers" generally don't give you private addresses in the first place.
YOU decide what they will be.
Thus my confusion.

Here is a simple "thought experiment":

What happens if you plug a wireless router into 10.34.32.0/24 on the router's WAN side?
Set the LAN side to ANYTHING you want like 10.99.99.0/24 or /23 if the router will allow it.
Does that get near to solving the problem?
Since the addresses are of your choice and are isolated from the upper levels of connection, what's the problem?  None I can see.
If the router won't allow /23 then simple add another at 10.99.100.0/24 .... someting like that.

So the private addresses are or should be under your control.
If the "provider" is giving you "private addresses" then you can NAT down to your own addresses and for most intents and purposes the upper level private addresses may as well be public addresses for that matter.

ok by private i meant that we are allocated ip addresses by the provider as they hold the ip ranges for a secure network. Its a school and we come under their network and firewall etc and access to their network is based on ip ranges.

I think i will just request a continuous range that will give me the number of ip addresses I need and I can mask it accordingly to save all this messing about..
