Greetings,

I am trying to install windows mobile device center on a win 7 64 bit machine.

It proceeds with the install and at a certain point the installer says that it is installing driver updates.  Then the installer rolls back and ends without any error or message.

In the application log I find this entry:

Product: Windows Mobile Device Center Driver Update -- Installation failed.

And then this one:

Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Windows Mobile Device Center Driver Update. Product Version: 6.1.6965.0. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Installation success or error status: 1603.

I am at a loss.  any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

If possible upload the log file here.

Check whether windows installer service is started and set to automatic.

Run this fixit

http://support.microsoft.com/mats/program_install_and_uninstall/

Restart system and then try installing the software.

Thank you very much.  when I first ran that fix it I didn't think that it had worked.  But I hadn't restarted.

After putting it away for a day I came back to it this morning and I was able to install the mobile device center.,

Thank you very much.  I greatly appreciate it.
