BES10.1 or BES10.1.1?

PLanning on upgrading our BES10.0 box soon.  Currently only using BDS.  WOuld like to get UDS on there too at some point after 10.1 is on.

Question is, it says to backup shared apps folders, sql database etc.

Our server is a VM.  In the event we backup the VM and apply an upgrade, which fails.  We can roll the VM back in time.  Has anyone else done this?

Also, reading the notes, it says 10.1.1 is a maintenance release (patch), but its 800mb+ so is it a patch or a full install which can be applied to the v10.0 server?

Also if it breaks, will it affect active sync?

Thanks

I have not rolled back a BES or BDS server back to a previous snap shot. In theory, it should work, especially if you are running the SQL database on a separate server. On the download site itself, it states:

"Note: As this is a Maintenance Release, 10.1 is required to be installed prior to applying this patch. Upgrading from 10.0 directly to this release is not supported."

That means it is not a direct upgrade and will probably do a version check before the installer runs. If you are asking will it affect ActiveSync on the Exchange server, then no. It will break ActiveSync to the BB devices though.

Strange why its the same size as the full upgrade v10.1

It is actually larger than the service pack. There are a number of fixes, may there are a large number of files to be replaced associated with those fixed.
