How to add my gmail account to the linux mint ?

Hi,

How to add my gmail account to the linux mint so that when i logged into Linux machine via putty so that while startup itself it shows like you have new messages.so that i can see them using mailx?


could you please advise me how to setup my personal email in linux mint machine?
