Automatically append records

I have a pretty standard database with pupils studying Maths at different levels. Each level has different assessments. I would like to know how to automatically add all the assessments for a level automatically to a pupil marks table when I add a pupil to a level table.

So if pupil1 is taking Higher Maths and its has 3 assessments prelim1, prelim2, prelim3. I would like to automatically add these.

I have attached my database as I am not even sure where to start, I am guessing it has something to do with appending data but have never mastered that.

Any help appreciated as I usually just add these manually.

You can do it with query (Query1 in sample). To prevent duplicates be added, create complex index in your table:

Can you tell me how I could do it with a query you mention query 1 in sample but I do not see an attachment or anything....and also what the screenshot above is ...I have never used indexes.

Will be better if you change in Assmts table Alevel field to FK from table Levels

I get a data type mismatch when I try and run the query.  IE will not let me attach the file but all I changed was to chnage the alevel filed in assessments to lookup the levels table..thats what you meant by a FK right?
