After I did a firware update on a Dell 2950 Windows 2008 server I backup, the backup server Backup Exec 2010 gets this error for the there system state backup;

Backup Exec Exception - VSS Snapshot warning. File c:\windows\system32\drivers\dcdbas64.sys is not present on the snapshot.

I searched symnatec support and have not found a clear solution other than makng a dummy file. Any suggestions?

this is  Dell BASE Device Driver, verify  if this file is available under

32 bit:
%systemroot%\system32\DRIVERS\dcdbas32.sys

64 bit:
%systemroot%\system32\DRIVERS\DCDBAS64.SYS

if file not present that means it registry is key is still available on the server

check if you locate any entry for above driver on below location
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
