Citrix XenServer and Xenapp infracture migrating to Hyper-V windows 2012
hello guys,
I have customer that has the following infracture:
Citrix XenServer hypervisor installed physical machine
Citrix XenApp installed on VM's running windows 2008
They want to move to the following infracture:
Windows Server 2012 Hyper V installed physical machine
Remote Desktop Services session-based installed in VM's running in windows 2012
They currently run their Main application in their local computer by running citrix client and connecting to the VM that has cintrix Xenapp installed. I want to move their Main Application to run in VM that has Remote Desktop Services session-based installed running windows 2012 and they will connect from their local computer to the VM using RDP.
Im not familiar at all with Citrix XenServer/XenApp configurations so my question is do you guys think their Main Application will able to run in Windows 2012 VM with Remote Desktop Services session-based installed? as oppose to their current Citrix XenServer/Xenapp server configuration?
any feedback will appreciate.
thank you

Citrix XenServer is different from Xenapp. They are not related.
Citrix XenServer can be replaced by VMware/Hyper-V easily.

npsingh123 - if you had read the question, the OP states he has XenApp on XenServer. He also asks how to migrate from a virtualised XenApp infrastructure to a Hyper-V 2012 infrastructure and how to go about utilising Remote Desktop Services on there.
On a related note, if you do want to do a migration of any servers you can use SCVMM 2012 (assuming you have it of course).
I've had limited success with the Sysinternals Disk2VHD but it has worked occasionally.
However, as I originally said, in a fresh environment I prefer to build from scratch wherever possible but being pragmatic that isn't always viable.

i'm going to start with fresh environement which will have windows 2012/hyper-v host servers and windows 2012 VM's with remote desktop service session-based installed. my main concern is if the Main application will be able to run in the VM with windows 2012 and remote desktop services session-based installed and without the Citrix XenApp and Citrix Client. That is my main concern as i'm not familiar at all with XenServer/Xenapp configurations.
@Tony1044, I did read the question.
OP asked if it can be moved, which it of can be. OP never asked how.
Also p2v/V2v is not exactly easy. I would let someone with more experience handle it.

@Cholo - You need to test the application - if it's currently XenApp 6.5 and Windows Server 2008 R2 then you should be ok as these are already x64 platforms.
If, however, it's currently XenApp 6.0 or below and Server 2008 RTM/SP1/SP2 then you may be struggling and there's no way to really know until you try it.
In terms of P2V or V2V - I personally prefer a fresh install where possible simply because it's a great opportunity to clear out any legacy rubbish that's accumulated over time. However, I'd say it's a reasonably simple task these days and there are plenty of resources to help you, bearing in mind that it's a non-destructive process to the original server, there is absolutely no reason not to try it before spending money on external resources.
@npsingh - sorry but I'm still not seeing the bit where the OP actually asked if it could be moved, just that they want to move it. I can only see where they asked for advice on whether their main app would be problematic.

@tony1044 - can you please explain me this below in more detail if you can, why will there be struggle if their current infracture is running XenApp 6.0 or below and server 2008 standard SP1/SP2 32bit?

Assuming it works, I would always use this opportunity to do a fresh install of everything rather than try to migrate. I'd also look at their users - profiles, home drives etc and see if anything can be done to trim them (particularly the profile - again a shiny new one is always good and lose the legacy junk that tends to grow up and slow down logon and logoff).
