Shoretel v13.1 - Network Cards...
I have been told that our new shoretel HQ server will need its OWN DEDICATED NIC. Is this correct?
If so, is it a matter of removing one of the 4x nics from the vswitch and creating another vswitch with the single nic?
Note, the VM's are on local storage.
Thanks

ok, ta.
Same principle as allocating one of my 4 nics to it via a new vswitch, no?

no, I'm afraid not, that method you are using a virtual network interface.
this is allocating a physical network interface to the VM.

Its looking like the safest way is physical server then!
The ShoreTel voice servers support virtualization . CHI-LTD - can you point me to where you read that you need a dedicated physical NIC ?
I just scanned the v13 planning and installation guide for the word dedicated and I found no reference to a dedicated network card.

Yes, vSwitch1 is okay, if that is what you are asking!?
but, we still stand by Option 2. (if you server supports VMware Direct Path I/O) if you are dedicating resources to a single VM.

I still can't see how (my option) will benefit as the nics are all on the same bus/server..?
like you said in another post, test test test.
I expect we will go this route of vswitch1 and single nic for the VM.
If all fails to deliver, physical server...

Built the VM with its own NIC vnic3 on its own vswitch, which eventually will be on a separate vlan for voice..

what is direct path i/o?
If phys nic, then can we remove a nic from the current vswitch, create a new vswitch and add the spare nic and add the VM to this switch/nic?
