New error icon in Server 2012 Server Manager
I installed a 2012 file server not long ago and its been doing well until recently. Its been hanging with high processor use running the service lsass.exe. Today I noticed in the server manager the attached icon. Clicking on it brings up the Task Details and Notifications window which shows the actual error (second screenshot). I don't recall starting an AD install and I really don't want the service running here, its just supposed to be a file server. I'm guessing this may also be what's causing the lsass process to go nuts.
I'm looking for advice on how to clear the error gracefully and back out of what appears to be a partial install of AD services.

Hi danbrown1888, I can't see the attached error?

Does ADDS show up as an installed role?

Ok, that's easy enough. Do you have any ideas on how I might have wound up in this half installed AD state? Normally you add the role, reboot, and you're done. Here I'm seeing this error saying the process hasn't been completed. Also, do you think its possible this situation might have caused the high lsass process that froze the machine? It seems like most people having that problem are on a DC.

I should also ask if this might affect my domain. The primary DCs are both 2008R2, will uninstalling the role from the 2012 server cause any domain issues you can think of?
The ADDS role needs config after it's installed, you've basically got the service but it's not being used yet, the machine hasn't been promoted to a DC. I don't know how it was installed however, probably a check of the event logs will provide some clues.
It won't affect the domain to uninstall the role as you are now.

Thanks endjinn, I'll give that a shot this week!
