403 Forbidden error when attempting to access EWS

We are attempting to configure a exchange/helpdesk integrator that will allow our helpdesk appointments to be synchronized with our outlook appointments. The Exchange integrator is directly from the helpdesk vendor. It talks with exchange via EWS. The Integrator configuration is fairly simple. It asks for our exchange version which is 2007 SP2, mail server IP, EWS root folder and DNS - the dns we are told to enter as the characters appearing between @ and .com in our mail address. In any event, after we input these settings and hit the test button, it prompts us for our exchange credentials - domain\user, password and email address. I type all of these credentials in and hit test and then get the below error about 20 seconds later. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Communication Failed
Error: The request failed. The remote server returned an error:
(403) Forbidden
