Hello,

we have a critical windows service that has been stopping randomly lately. I would like to windows send me an email when this service is stopped, can someone guide me to a step by step?

Hi

You could use a tool like 'servers alive' which will mail you whatever service or application you are monitoring.

Else you could set up event forwarding in your server, specific errors will then be forwarded to any server/computer you specify which could (on his own) trigger an event.

How to configure event forwarding and collecting is described here.

theres no way to do this natively ? I prefer email alerts.
What do you mean by "natively"?... because as you could see in my previous comment the "attach a task" to an event is very "natively" in Windows Server 2008 and this could be used directly without any other scripting if the service you want to monitor will record an event into the System or Application log... but this will mean that you will receive a message to inform you that event with that ID was recorded so that ID must be related to your service crush or stop.
